TestAmerica Addresses Ethics and Data Quality at the U.S. EPA Region 6 Quality Assurance Conference

TestAmerica’s Raymond Frederici, Director of Quality and Client Advocacy, will review the changes and requirements of improving the ethical and quality systems of environmental laboratory data at the 20th Annual U.S. EPA Region 6 Quality Assurance (QA) Conference. The presentation will be given on October 20, 2010 in Dallas, Texas.

EPA’s intensified focus on Ethics and Data Quality Principles stretches back nearly a decade. On September 5, 2001, the EPA’s Office of Inspector General (OIG) published a communication to the environmental laboratory industry that requested the strengthening of ethics and data quality systems to prohibit the practice of unethical behavior in data representation. The OIG stated, “The falsification of environmental data undermines the ability of Federal, State, Tribal, and local governments, and the regulated community, to make environmental decisions necessary to protect the health and safety of the general public.”

Mr. Frederici states, “As business leaders are socially and ethically responsible to the health and safety of the communities they operate in, the integrity of environmental data and its accurate representation are vital. Environmental decisions are based on generated laboratory data and the social costs for unethical practices can be detrimental.” Mr. Frederici will discuss the changes and requirements needed to strengthen the industry’s environmental laboratory data integrity. The presentation will also provide an overview of a laboratory company’s ethics program, the elements of success, and how it continues to promote values that deter unethical behavior.

Mr. Frederici has 29 years of experience in the environmental testing industry that includes extensive leadership and management expertise. Mr. Frederici is a quality systems professional, lead auditor, investigator and problem resolution expert. His responsibilities include implementation, administration and enforcement of company-wide quality system and data integrity programs. This includes the direction and leadership of thirty Quality Assurance Managers across TestAmerica’s laboratory facilities and the enforcement of TestAmerica’s Corporate Ethics Program. He maintains a comprehensive quality system that is integrated with laboratory operations.
