One million users experience Sprint VoIP services; Sprint expands footprint to homes with three additional cable partners

RESTON, Va. — 04/10/2006, Sprint (NYSE: S) today announced that it now serves more than one million VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol) subscribers for the cable industry, a fourfold growth in the past year. Additionally, in its ongoing effort to bring competition and customer choice to large and small communities across the U.S. through cable partnerships, Sprint has signed VoIP agreements with several new cable companies, including WEHCO Video, NPG Cable, Inc. and Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations (SELCO). These new partnerships reinforce Sprint’s leadership in enabling cable companies to enter the voice services business.

“We are continuing to execute against our vision of being the premier partner to the cable industry,” said Jim Patterson, vice president, cable solutions for Sprint. “Today, Sprint’s wireline cable partners rely on our operational experience to enable quality VoIP services and bundled offerings in twenty-four states. We are continuing to pursue additional customers and territory expansion, even as current market penetration grows.”

Extending Sprint’s wireline VoIP solution into the small business market and working with its cable joint venture partners to launch wireless converged services are logical next steps.

“Sprint is focused on operational excellence, market readiness, and scalability so our customers can attain profitable market share,” said Patterson. “Sprint’s ability to enable cable companies to offer a home voice alternative to residential customers is only one of many ways to unlock value through Sprint’s partnerships in the cable industry.”
