Juniper Networks Announces the Next-Generation FIPS SSL VPN Products to Meet Changing Security Requirements of Federal Government Agencies

WEBWIRE

SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 10, 2006 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR), today announced the availability of its next-generation Secure Access SSL VPN FIPS appliances. The SA 4000 FIPS and SA 6000 FIPS offer unparalleled capabilities to meet the stringent security remote access needs of federal, state and local government agencies.

“The functionality offered by these products is important to meet the changing cybersecurity threat that government agencies are facing,” said Thomas Kreidler, vice president, Juniper Federal Systems, Juniper Networks. “Juniper Networks will assist the government in staying one step ahead of these threats through FIPS compliance and the best in security products.”

According to Roger Cressey, former chief of staff, President’s Critical Infrastructure Protection Board, “As part of prudent continuity of operations planning and to prepare for telework requirements in the case of emergencies such as an avian flu outbreak or terrorist attack, government agencies must have the right technologies in place to ensure employees can fulfill their missions remotely in the most difficult circumstances. Deploying a resilient SSL VPN technology, such as Juniper Networks Secure Access, needs to be part of the foundation of this preparation effort.”

The Juniper Networks Secure Access appliances help agencies increase efficiency and productivity by providing remote access to mobile employees, contractors, partners and customers without requiring a pre-installed client. The appliances also allow agencies to secure extranet or intranet access without a DMZ build-out, server hardening or Web agent deployments.

The Juniper Networks Secure Access appliances have earned many awards and industry accolades in the SSL VPN market since its first products shipped in 2001. According to Infonetics Research, Juniper Networks continues to be the market share leader in the Secure Sockets Layer Virtual Private Network (SSL VPN) market with 33 percent market share in 2005, which was more than double the next ranking competitor.* Juniper Networks is positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the “Leaders” quadrant of the recently published 3Q05 North America Secure Sockets Layer Virtual Private Network (SSL VPN) report.**

This year, Juniper’s Secure Access was also selected by Network World as the “Clear Choice” winner in a competitive product review published on December 19, 2005, outperforming 10 other SSL VPN products. As a result of this competitive review, the Secure Access SSL VPN won Network World’s “Best Product” of the year in the Security Infrastructure category.

Juniper Networks also continues to be the only SSL VPN provider to have completed multiple, independent security audits - supporting its goal to deliver secure and assured networking solutions, including the only SSL VPN to achieve Common Criteria certification. The appliances have also passed rigorous security audits by Information Security Partners, LLC (iSEC Partners) and Cybertrust, Inc.
