Pioneer Hi-Bred Hosts Open House for Research and Production Facilities

Corn Research and Production Centers Established to Bring Better Products to Farmers

HERMISTON, Ore., - Pioneer Hi-Bred, a DuPont business, commemorated the first successful year of operation for its parent seed production facility and the opening of a new research facility in Hermiston, Ore., during an open house here today. These facilities build upon the commitment by Pioneer to develop and place the right product on the right acre.

Pioneer first established a presence in the area with a parent seed production facility in 2009 and expanded with a new research center built this year. The seed facility produces parent corn and pre-commercial hybrid seed corn and is one of more than 40 Pioneer production locations in North America. The Pioneer research center, also one of more than 40 North America research locations, will focus on trial seed production to advance corn product development and testing efforts for the commercialization of new corn hybrids.

“Our Hermiston facilities have strengthened our ability to bring new products to the market reliably and faster,” said Mike Gumina, Pioneer vice president of Production and Business Improvement. “There’s a lot of excitement in the Hermiston area and we look forward to continued success in this growing region.”

The Hermiston expansion is just one of many investments in research and production capabilities that Pioneer is making to meet growing customer demand. During the past year, Pioneer has announced plans for new research facilities and space for 400 new research positions based in Johnston, Iowa; a new soybean production location in New Madrid, Mo.; a new corn and soybean research center in North Carolina; new corn research centers in Orange City, Iowa, and Ithaca, Mich.; expansion of research facilities in Union City, Tenn., Janesville, Wis., and Chatham, Ontario; and expansion of drought tolerance research in Manhattan, Kan., and Plainview, Texas. These expanding resources represent Pioneer’s commitment to providing better products for the specific needs of growers’ unique operations.
