Empower improves agility with Nokia Siemens Networks’ field force management

Espoo, Finland - Empower, a leading provider of field engineering and maintenance services to energy, telecom and industrial companies, is implementing Nokia Siemens Networks’ field force management approach. Based on a Software as a Service (SaaS) model,* the approach automatically allocates needed resources to place and schedule work as efficiently as possible. It is expected to help Empower significantly to increase productivity, specifically improving productive field technician and shift manager time.

“As an increasing number of companies outsource their field engineering and maintenance services to us, it is important for us to adopt a consolidated solution for our multi-national operation that will support us to identify repeating elementary tasks and streamline the processes,” said Juhani Vanhala, chief development officer of Empower Group. “Nokia Siemens Networks’ solution will help us to boost our competitiveness and our flexibility, providing us the much needed agility to manage our resources.”

Nokia Siemens Networks’ field force management provides data on the position, availability and skills of field engineers as well as service tools and machinery. Based on a consolidated view of the data, the most suitable resources for lowest possible cost can easily be selected to suit the time and location of field engineering activities. Unnecessary traveling is minimized and extra costs from service level agreement violations are avoided. The solution provides data on delivery accuracy, team performance and work order history. The whole solution is seamlessly integrated into existing Enterprise Resource Planning systems and delivered via an IT cloud provider.

“Empower has handled parts of our managed services operations in the past and having worked with the company we have a good understanding of its pain points. In close cooperation with the company, we designed the solution to meet their needs,” said Esa Harju head of Nordic and Baltic business, Nokia Siemens Networks. “With the deployment of this solution, Empower will substantially improve operational efficiency and maximize revenues.”

The solution will initially be deployed in Sweden and Finland and subsequently in other countries where Empower has a presence.

Notes to editors:
*The solution will be delivered through cloud technology, eliminating Empower’s need to invest in its own IT infrastructure, personnel or premises.

Nokia Siemens Networks’ field force management comprises system components for work planning and supervision. The system allocates needed resources to work orders and schedules them into cost wise optimal sequence. This component consists basically of three main modules. Firstly module is the sequencer for managing the schedule of the tasks and the allocation plans for the related resources and prioritising new incoming tasks for cost analysis to maintain the schedule of the analysed tasks. The second is a cost optimiser for calculating the cost of available resources for each task to be performed. The last is an activity state management for providing constant on-line visibility to the status of all ongoing tasks as well as the status of the managed field force and tools resources.

Nokia Siemens Networks is offering this solution to telcos as well as non-telcos like government organizations, utility companies and military establishments that are having field activities.
