CA Awards Technology Grant To Candlelighters To Support Its Childhood Cancer Programs

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO, April 4, 2006 – CA (NYSE:CA) today announced that through its CA Together Community Grants Program, the company has awarded a CDN $15,000 grant and approximately $7,000 in software and services to the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Support Programs Inc.

The CA Together Technology Grant will help fund Candlelighters’ Cyberkids program, which provides laptop computers with educational software to youth who are being treated for cancer. The goal of the Cyberkids program is to lessen the impact of lapsed school achievement in children who are receiving treatment for cancer.

“Children who are treated for cancer are often absent from school for long periods of time, and as a result often lead isolated lives,” said Jocelyn Lamont, executive director of Candlelighters. “The provision of computers with age-appropriate software, Internet access and email capabilities give these kids the means by which they can complete academic projects at their own pace, maintain contact with school and friends, and ultimately continue their educational studies and build their self-confidence.”

In addition to financial funding, CA has donated CA Security Management software licenses and service and maintenance for a three-year period, enabling Candlelighters to better protect the children in the Cyberkids program from Internet dangers, while allowing them to be connected to their communities.

“CA is devoted to supporting local organizations where we live and work that enrich the lives of children through technology. Through our funding support of Candlelighters, we are helping to provide access for young cancer patients to hands-on technology that will prepare them for success in a highly technological world,” said Joanne Moretti, general manager for CA Canada.

Established in 1989 as part of the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Canada network of local and parent support groups, Candlelighters is a not-for-profit volunteer organization that provides comfort and resources to young cancer patients being treated in Eastern Ontario. Its mission is to enhance the lives of children with cancer and their families, and to promote awareness and understanding of this devastating illness.

“We are very grateful that CA has chosen to support Cyberkids for the second year in a row,” said Lamont. “Thanks to CA’s generosity we will be able to provide even more children undergoing cancer treatments with computers to help them stay involved and connected with their schools, friends and families.”

The CA Together Community Grants Program targets well-managed nonprofit organizations that align with the company’s values and criteria. For additional information on CA Together please visit http://ca.com/community.
