New Portal Offerings Continue BEA’s Commitment to Cross-Platform, Service-Oriented Architecture To Help Improve Information Visibility and Governance For Windows SharePoint Services in the Enterprise

Las Vegas, NV—Gartner Portals, Content & Collaboration Summit Booth J— April 4, 2006—BEA Systems (NASDAQ: BEAS) today announced two new products in the BEA portal portfolio that are designed to extend the value of customers’ investments in Microsoft technologies by making it easier to use .NET based applications and services in enterprises with investments in both Java and .NET platforms. The products being announced include the BEA AquaLogic Interaction SharePoint Console, which is designed to help provide support for integrating and governing Windows SharePoint Services within a BEA portal deployment; and the BEA Portal .NET Application Accelerator, an integrated toolset designed to help ASP.NET developers to build and expose applications via the Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP) standard for use in both BEA AquaLogic Interaction and BEA WebLogic Portal or any WSRP compliant portal server.

“These new product releases mark a major milestone in the unified portal roadmap that BEA announced in December 2005,” said Shane Pearson, vice president of marketing and product management at BEA Systems. “The BEA Portal .NET Application Accelerator extends BEA’s position as a market-leading vendor of cross-platform, service oriented products with equivalent support for Java and .NET. In addition, the AquaLogic Interaction SharePoint Console is designed to help empower BEA customers by providing an alternative for adding management and governance to their Windows SharePoint Services deployments that can be easily used across a broader set of enterprise portal requirements.”

A Solution for Leveraging SharePoint Services Across the Enterprise

The AquaLogic Interaction SharePoint Console, which is now generally available, is a product designed to help customers address the natural information sprawl that can be created by broad deployments of Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) TeamSites. BEA’s AquaLogic Interaction SharePoint Console helps provide a new solution for customers who want to manage and govern Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services and present a unified view of enterprise information and TeamSites to information workers across the extended enterprise. The Console features the following capabilities:

Content service for SharePoint offers a unified view of information: an integrated crawling and indexing service for scanning a distributed network of SharePoint sites, indexing their corresponding items and organizing the sites and items in a unified knowledge management system;

SharePoint cross-site search: an integrated ability to federate a search across a distributed network of SharePoint sites from a single, integrated interface;

SharePoint Console: a prepackaged console of interactive portlets for SharePoint, including a SharePoint Search Portlet, which provides the ability to issue a single search across multiple SharePoint sites, and a Most Recently Used SharePoint Items Portlet, which displays a list of the frequently access items for individual users;

Content and Access Control Mirroring: the ability to automatically mirror SharePoint site and document folder structures and document-level access control within the BEA portal knowledge management experience.

Empowering the .NET Developer

BEA also announced the BEA Portal .NET Application Accelerator, which is currently planned for general release mid-year. This product is designed to directly support the ASP.NET developer, helping allow that developer to integrate new or existing .NET applications and services into portals powered by AquaLogic Interaction or WebLogic Portal. Using the toolkit an ASP.NET developer working with either AquaLogic Interaction or WebLogic Portal can create ASP 1.1 or ASP 2.0 applications that can be consumed and presented by the portal server.

The BEA Portal .NET Application Accelerator includes the following capabilities:

ASP.NET Portlet API for developing in ASP .NET 1.1 or 2.0

Visual Studio 2005 IDE Integration for creating portlets in ASP .NET 2.0 directly through the File ïƒ New menu

.NET Web Control Consumer for consuming ASP.NET artifacts via WSRP

.NET WSRP Producer for producing ASP.NET artifacts via WSRP

These new products help enable organizations to more readily incorporate .NET applications and services, either developed organically, available through partners or added through acquisition, into a more powerful portal framework and can provide additional interoperability between the AquaLogic Interaction and WebLogic Portal products through the WSRP standard. As a result, these products help companies to more easily build applications and readily use them across their SOA deployments.
