Australian Winery Celebrates International Mollydooker Day

Lefties around the world will celebrate on August 13th, International Mollydooker (Left-Handers’) Day. The honorary day was started in 1976 and is now recognised around the world. There are at least 600 million Lefties in the world, based on conservative estimates of 10% of the world’s population’s being left-handed.

In Australia, Mollydooker is slang for ‘left hander’. Mollydooker Day, or Left Handers’ Day, celebrates the uniqueness of left-handers in a predominantly right-handed world.

The husband and wife team behind Mollydooker Wines, Sarah and Sparky Marquis, are both left-handed. In 2005 they launched the Mollydooker brand and within five years, have earned recognition from leading wine experts and from consumers around the world.
Each year on International Mollydooker Day, Sarah and Sparky release their latest vintage of Mollydooker wines. This year’s 2009 vintage has already received glowing reviews.

Sarah says that she and Sparky are really excited about the 2009 vintage because ‘They are the best wines we have ever made’.

The 2009 Mollydooker release includes all the highest graded wines - the Velvet Glove Shiraz, the Carnival of Love Shiraz, the Enchanted Path Shiraz/Cabernet , the Blue Eyed Boy Shiraz and the Gigglepot Cabernet Sauvignon. Harvey Steiman of the The Wine Spectator has already reviewed several of the 2009 wines – the Carnival of Love (Hot Buy and 94 Points), Enchanted Path (91 Points) and the Gigglepot (90 Points).

Mollydooker is responsible for creating some of the world’s most highly regarded wines, including the Carnival of Love Shiraz from McLaren Vale, South Australia which has in both 2007 and 2008 been included in the Top 10 Wines in the World by the Wine Spectator, and The Boxer Shiraz which was last year voted Most Popular Australian Shiraz on US Wine Lists by Wine and Spirits Magazine.
