SAP Development Center in Brazil Targets Further Staff Growth and Greater Regional Focus Under New Name: “SAP Labs Latin America”

SAO LEOPOLDO, Brazil - Four years after initiating operations and one year after the inauguration of its green building, the SAP Labs location in São Leopoldo, Brazil, is gearing up for growth and changing its name to “SAP Labs Latin America.” The new name reflects the development center’s main focus in serving customers and business partners in the Latin American market. It also underscores SAP’s commitment to the region, as the center is planning to increase staffing from 300 to 400 employees by the end of the year.

Of the 10 SAP Labs locations worldwide, the São Leopoldo center is the only one located in Latin America. In contrast to other SAP Labs, which support customers and partners in various countries worldwide, SAP Labs Latin America focuses mainly on the unique needs of SAP customers throughout the Latin American region, delivering localized product development, support services and business partner training. It also serves customers in Spain and Portugal.

SAP Labs Latin America is located on a 22-km2 land lot inside the Unisinos University campus, in the southern part of Brazil, and stands as SAP’s first environmentally-friendly building in an economically emerging country. In fact, the building has been submitted for “Gold New Construction” status under LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) international standards.

The site can house more than 425 employees and was built with over 40 percent recycled materials, 100 percent-certified wood and zero- or low-carbon emissions furniture. Construction debris, such as cement residues, was recycled for future building stages, while low-degrading materials were used widely during construction. The project also included an intelligent air-conditioning system that benefits from natural ventilation and solar light, and only activates when necessary. Likewise, 100 percent of water used at SAP Labs facilities is treated and reused.

“With the tremendous growth SAP is seeing in Latin America, we aim to expand our team in stride with the increasing demand for our services,” said said Erwin Rezelman, managing director, SAP Labs Latin America. “We designed the new building as an environment to inspire employees for innovation. Now, in re-naming to SAP Labs Latin America and adding new colleagues to our team, we underscore our dedication the entire region, and to enabling further innovation for customers and partners.”
