UK Families Begin to Reclaim NHS Nursing Home and Care Fees
A number of landmark court cases in 2009 highlighted the fact that many UK families have been incorrectly charged long term care and nursing home fees.
In light of this information, the number of long term care and nursing home fees claims being made in the UK has increased significantly in the first half of 2010.
According to Simon Thompson, of care and nursing home fees claim specialists Precision Claims, “Families up and down the UK are only now beginning to realise that they have been wrongly charged care and nursing home fees and, quite rightly, they want to do something about it; this is why we’re seeing a surge in claims.”
In August 2009, the family of Marjorie Eyton-Jones won their 6 year legal battle with NHS Wirral and managed to recover £165,000 in nursing fees which were wrongly paid.
In that same month the family of 74 year old Judith Roe was awarded £130,000 by the Health Service Ombudsman, after they were forced to pay ongoing care fees by NHS Worcestershire. The health body had originally claimed that Mrs Roe’s Alzheimer’s was a social rather than a medical condition, and therefore it was not responsible for her ongoing care.
“There are thousands of people currently receiving long term care in England and Wales who could be eligible to have their fees paid by the NHS - there are also thousands more who may be eligible to reclaim fees they’ve wrongly paid in the past” continues Simon Thompson.
“If you’re concerned that you may have been wrongly charged nursing home fees or long term care costs, the best thing to do is speak to a professional nursing home fees claims specialist as soon as possible.”
