Harrisburg Real Estate Firm Founded On A Gamble, Going Strong Thirty-Three Years Later


Harrisburg, PA - Thirty-three years ago, founder Alex DiSanto founded Triple Crown Corporation to handle a massive wager.

DiSanto had heard about a dynamo horse named Seattle Slew. He had won both the Flamingo Stakes and Wood Memorial Stakes horse races in record times. The undefeated horse was preparing for the Kentucky Derby.

DiSanto had a good feeling about Seattle Slew. He bet that he would win the Triple Crown, the single biggest achievement for a racehorse.

But he didn’t bet at the track.

DiSanto instead bought 2,000 tickets each to the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes and formed Triple Crown Corporation to pull off the deal. After Seattle Slew won all three races, DiSanto framed sets of the three tickets along with a picture of the racehorse and sold them as collector’s items.

He made more money than anyone on Seattle Slew’s victory.

The profits from that sale gave the newly-formed corporation the capital to begin buying real estate properties in and around Harrisburg, and the company has been growing ever since.

Triple Crown Corporation celebrated its thirty-third anniversary on June 27th. Given such risky beginnings, the company has been stable since inception and continues to grow today. Triple Crown counts 93 employees among its full- and part-time staff.

During 2009, in one of the worst real estate markets in a century, Triple Crown acquired six properties including four home development properties, an apartment complex and Colonial Golf & Tennis Club near Harrisburg.
