City and County in Colorado Help Fund Mold Investigation at Housing Complex

Recently the City of Aspen and Pitkin County, Colorado decided to help fund a forensic engineering study of ownership units at the Centennial affordable housing complex. Of the over 200 units, 92 of them are managed by a home owners association (HOA). The HOA approached the city and county this spring looking for assistance since they each have a small ownership in the affordable housing complex.

A mold problem was first discovered when a leaking pipe lead to a plumber opening a wall and discovering mold growing on the siding. The complex, built in 1984, appears to be suffering from siding failure that has lead to moisture infiltration problems and mold growth. The local county and city governments have agreed to contribute money towards an investigation to determine the extent of the damage and develop solutions to fix the problem.
