Siemens receives order from Italy for photovoltaic plant

WEBWIRE

Erlangen, Germany, Siemens Energy has received an order from Italy for a photovoltaic plant with a peak output of 15 megawatts (MW). The customer is Ital Green Energy, a subsidiary of the Marseglia Group. The San Donaci solar power plant located in the Apulia region is to be connected to the Italian grid by late 2010 and will then supply clean electricity to around 5,500 Italian households.

Besides plant design and engineering, Siemens will provide inverters, transformers, medium-voltage equipment as well as the monitoring and control system, and will also erect the plant. Siemens partner will be Italiana Costruzioni 2000, a Marseglia Group company, which will be in charge of all the civil works, and supply and erection of the support structures.

“In the past we’ve successfully completed numerous projects with the Marseglia Group,” said René Umlauft, CEO of the Siemens Renewable Energy Division. "With our comprehensive know-how spanning the entire energy conversion chain, we’ll also be supporting Ital Green Energy in the future in the implementation of its ambitious plans to expand renewable energy and to set up smart grid solutions.”

Components and solutions for photovoltaic plants are part of Siemens’ Environmental Portfolio, with which the company posted revenue amounting to approximately EUR23 billion in fiscal 2009. This makes Siemens the world’s largest provider of environmentally compatible technology. In the same period, the company’s products and solutions enabled customers to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions by 210 million tons. This amount equals the combined annual CO2 emissions of New York, Tokyo, London, and Berlin.

The Siemens Energy Sector is the world’s leading supplier of a complete spectrum of products, services and solutions for the generation, transmission and distribution of power and for the extraction, conversion and transport of oil and gas. In fiscal 2009 (ended September 30), the Energy Sector had revenues of approximately EUR25.8 billion and received new orders totaling approximately EUR30 billion and posted a profit of EUR3.3 billion. On September 30, 2009, the Energy Sector had a work force of more than 85,100. Further information is available at: www.siemens.com/energy
