TestAmerica Expert Invited to Speak at the National Defense Industrial Association’s (NDIA) 2010 E2S2 Conference

WEBWIRE

Larry Penfold, TestAmerica’s Quality Assurance Director, will present analytical and cost-benefit data for Incremental Sampling Methodology (ISM) techniques based on an EPA 8330B Method validation study, at the NDIA’s 2010 Environmental, Energy Security, and Sustainability (E2S2) Symposium and Conference. The presentation will be given on June 14, 2010 in Denver, CO.

In 2009, the study required samples to be collected from two Department of Defense (DoD) firing ranges, the Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico and Army Fort Lewis facility in Washington. The objective was to compare the newer multi-incremental sampling and EPA 8330B Method analysis to the conventional method, EPA 8330A. Soil samples and explosive residue contaminants were collected and analyzed using replicate analysis, which helped to compare the effects on data quality when processed in the laboratory by the traditional and newer techniques. This analysis also allowed for quantitative comparison of results from various instrumental techniques.

Under the Incremental Sampling technical track, Mr. Penfold’s presentation will reveal the laboratory analysis aspects of the study, including its framework, utilization of laboratory equipment, and cost-benefits in comparing incremental sampling to traditional method techniques.

In addition to providing quality oversight for 18 TestAmerica laboratories, Mr. Penfold plays a key role in developing TestAmerica’s capabilities for the analysis of explosives and energetic materials. He also oversees TestAmerica’s DoD Environmental Laboratory Approval Program (ELAP) accreditation program and actively contributes to the development of a unified accreditation standard in the industry. For more information on EPA 8330B or Explosive and Energetic Materials, please contact Mr. Penfold through TestAmerica’s Ask the Expert webpage at www.testamericainc.com.
