Crosstex Energy Implements Newmerix’s Automate!Test To Effectively Automate M&A Activities in PeopleSoft

WEBWIRE

Superior, Colo., (March 28, 2006) – Newmerix, a provider of application quality and change management software for PeopleSoft applications, today announced that Crosstex Energy has successfully implemented Newmerix’s Automate!™Test—an automated testing solution for PeopleSoft. Crosstex will utilize the tool for several automated testing projects, including Sarbanes-Oxley testing, but the company found immediate cost-savings by using Automate!Test to migrate employee, vendor and customer data from recently acquired companies into their standard PeopleSoft implementation.

“Crosstex is growing rapidly—we’ve added more than 300 new employees from M&A activities and hiring recently,” said Michael Graetz, Director of PeopleSoft at Crosstex Energy. “Entering this data into PeopleSoft by hand is time-consuming and prone to mistakes. By using Automate!Test to automate the business process of entering the data, we not only get the data uploaded more quickly, we can also use features in the testing tool to ensure data quality.”

The team would load 50 or so employees, stop and check the data, then add others. With Automate!Test, the team can upload all the data into the test environment and test the entire data set for correctness. And, if the data passes testing, move all the new employees into production together.

Niel Robertson, CTO of Newmerix, says that although this wasn’t what Newmerix originally designed the tool to do, it makes sense. “One of the main benefits of automated testing is eliminating the repetitious, manual activity of business process testing. Entering employees into PeopleSoft is just another repetitious business process. Because Automate!Test can tie extensive data sets to that process, and use features such as checkpointing to test the data, it adds even more value than just reducing the time it takes to perform the task.”

“Many of our customer are finding and sharing all sorts of new applications for Automate!Test, “ says Robertson. “Anything they do more than a few times in PeopleSoft is a candidate for automation.”

Automate!Test is designed to vastly simplify the process of creating and maintaining automated test scripts through a design philosophy of application adaptive testing. Simply put, the tool does the work, not the testing team. Automate!Test offers a revolutionary patent-pending technology that adapts to PeopleSoft customer implementations in the following ways:

 Adjusts to the skills and knowledge of the user, whether it is a non-technical PeopleSoft business user or a PeopleSoft developer.
 Creates test scripts attuned to the underlying PeopleSoft metadata. Metadata is the core code of PeopleSoft—it’s like application DNA, controlling how the system appears and behaves. Test scripts that work at this level are durable, portable and more effective, requiring less modification by the testing team.
 Extracts and works with data in the context of PeopleSoft, allowing users to capture and re-use test data by simply right-clicking within the PeopleSoft application.
 Modifies test scripts whenever changes are made to PeopleSoft, which drastically reduces the amount of time required to keep test scripts up-to-date.
 Automatically migrates test scripts to work within any PeopleSoft environment, so that users don’t have to create separate test scripts for each application environment.

Crosstex is also working with Newmerix Professional Services to implement a rigorous automated testing program. Newmerix’s Professional Services team is comprised of individuals who are not just experts in testing, but also have specific expertise in testing PeopleSoft applications. Newmerix Professional Services provide implementation programs ranging from small packaged services offerings to large-scale custom engagements to implement a complete automated testing program.
