March 28, 2006, Miami, FL – Citibank awarded grants totaling $715,000 to 42 nonprofit organizations serving Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties during a ceremony today at the Doral Park Country Club in Miami. These grants have been made possible by Citigroup and the Citigroup Foundation and target organizations that focus on community development and education. Organizations that received grants include: The Center for Technology Enterprise and Development Inc., The Education Foundation-Citibank Family Tech Program, Hispanic Unity Of Florida, Spinal Cord Assistance Living Development Inc., and the Urban League of Palm Beach County.

“At Citibank, we are committed to helping make communities where we do business better places to live and work,” said Carlos Davila, President of Citibank in Florida. “We are pleased to strengthen this commitment by presenting these grants to so many wonderful nonprofit organizations and we salute their fine work.”

The Center for Technology Enterprise and Development will use its grant from Citibank to support its Enhanced Business Incubator Portable Information Technology Project, which provides virtual business incubator support to collaborating partners.

Citibank’s grant to The Education Foundation will support the Citibank FamilyTech Program, which has opened the world of home technology to low-income students and families in 10 Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Students participating in Citibank FamilyTech have shown substantial improvement in school, while their teachers and parents have gained new knowledge and skills in technology. Citibank FamilyTech also has received the Business Recognition Award for Outstanding Support and Commitment to Education from the State of Florida’s Commissioner of Education.

Hispanic Unity of Florida will target its Citibank grant for its Renacer Seniors Program for elderly immigrants in Broward County. The program provides health and acculturation services that make it possible for senior citizens to remain independent, engaged in society, and informed of potential health risks so they can seek early treatment.

Our grant to Spinal Cord Assistance Living Development will enable the organization to add two new educational programs -- Financial Credit Planning and Achieving Residential Stability. These programs will aim to help people with disabilities learn how to establish and maintain good credit and develop skills that will enable them to live independently in their community.

Urban League of Palm Beach County will use its grant from Citibank for its Comprehensive Housing Counseling Program. Among the services provided by the program are: pre-purchasing and post homeownership counseling, mortgage default counseling, renter assistance counseling, money management, emergency intervention, housing discrimination referrals, and Section 8 housing application assistance.
