Ethical Jewellers Ingle & Rhode Appear on BBC 3’s Blood, Sweat & Luxuries
David Rhode, Director of London-based ethical jewellery retailer Ingle & Rhode, appeared on BBC 3’s Blood, Sweat and Luxuries, speaking about his company’s gold and diamond sourcing policies.
The programme sends young and privileged 20-something UK consumers to work alongside people who mine, manufacture, process and recycle luxury goods in third world countries.
After spending time working in a gold mine, most of the British consumers realised that they could not continue to justify spending a fortune on gold items from high street stores when the workers mining the gold had been paid so little, and were required to work in such unpleasant conditions.
’5 star shopaholic’ Lucy tracked down Ingle & Rhode via the internet, and after a brief on-screen meeting with David Rhode declared, “Ethical jewellery... is the way forward.”
She continued by noting that ethical jewellers such as Ingle & Rhode make sure “that people are paid fairly and at market price for the gold that (they) produce.”
She was also impressed by the fact that “the fair trade premium goes towards… building the communities, which is a fantastic idea.”
“We were happy with the way the on-screen meeting went, and are pleased to hear that Lucy was impressed with our ethical sourcing policies,” commented David Rhode.
“We keep our sourcing policies totally transparent, and use only fair-trade gold and ethically sourced diamonds for our jewellery; we believe it’s the only fair way to operate.”
Based in Mayfair, Ingle & Rhode are committed to supplying beautiful handmade jewellery produced using only environmentally and socially responsible methods. For more information, visit their website: http://www.ingleandrhode.co.uk/.
