* Mercedes-Benz do Brasil wins Jornauto magazine’s 2010 Acknowledged Merit Award in six categories
* Winning 27 trophies in the history of the award, Mercedes-Benz is the most respected commercial vehicle brand in Brazil
* With 1,205 trucks sold in April, Mercedes-Benz do Brasil reaches the second-highest monthly volume in its history
* Brazil is Mercedes-Benz’s largest truck market among all units of Daimler Trucks worldwide

In April, Mercedes-Benz do Brasil reached the second-highest monthly volume in its history of heavy-duty truck sales, with 1,205 units sold in the domestic market. The record was achieved in March of this year, with 1,383 units. Since the beginning of this year Mercedes-Benz has sold a total of 4,417 heavy-duty trucks in Brazil, about 90 percent more than in the same period of 2009.

Truck sales in Brazil are once again on the increase. This development consolidates Brazil’s position as the largest sales market for Mercedes-Benz trucks among all units of Daimler Trucks worldwide. In the first four months of 2010, Mercedes-Benz sold a total of 35,338 units. Of these, 14,444 units were sold by Mercedes-Benz in Brazil, putting it in the lead ahead of Germany, Turkey, and France. The truck sales result achieved by Mercedes-Benz do Brasil in the first four months of the year is a clear indication of the fact that Brazil’s economy is on an upswing.

The increase in truck sales is also due to the stimulus programs with which the Brazilian government is encouraging companies to upgrade their corporate fleets. Trucks will be exempt from the industrial products (IPI) tax until June 2010.

Mercedes-Benz do Brasil has confirmed its position in Brazil through yet another major success. A majority of Brazil’s freight forwarding and bus companies named Mercedes-Benz as their preferred partner in the fifth competition for the “Prêmio Mérito Reconhecido” (Acknowledged Merit Award), which is organized by the Brazilian automotive magazine Jornauto. Mercedes-Benz do Brasil was the big winner in six categories: Best Manufacturer of Trucks, Buses, Vans, and Engines, Best Dealer Network, and Best Aftersales Service.

The tremendous success of Mercedes-Benz do Brasil in this year’s Prêmio Mérito Reconhecido competition means that the company has won a total of 27 prizes in the competition’s history. This further confirms the company’s position as Brazil’s most respected commercial vehicle brand.

In order to determine the winners of the awards, Jornauto magazine conducts a country-wide survey of freight forwarders and bus companies every two years. The survey participants indicate which vehicle brands, products, and replacement parts they use for transporting passengers and goods and for the maintenance and repair of their fleets. This year approximately 400 companies took part in the survey and answered two types of questions: “Which brand of a particular product do you use?” and “Which brand is the best?” A total of 40 product and service categories were evaluated in this manner.
