Net Insight chosen by Teracom for new IP/Ethernet DVB-T2 distribution network
Stockholm, Sweden – Net Insight, a leading developer of efficient and scalable transport solutions for media, IP and broadcast networks, has been awarded a contract by Teracom for a new national distribution network in Sweden for Digital Terrestrial TV, based on IP/Ethernet and with the new DTT standard DVB-T2.
The agreement covers Teracom’s new nationwide all-IP/Ethernet distribution network and is the first IP-based DVB-T2 network in the world. DVB-T2 is the new standard for Digital Terrestrial TV which offers better utilization of capacity, which can be used for HDTV and other value-adding services. The network will carry distribution services both for standard and high definition television for delivery to Teracom’s end-customers. With its multiservice capabilities the Nimbra network will also be utilized to carry other services.
The network will integrate both optical and IP links using Net Insight’s channelized IP Trunk module to provide one high quality media network, with unified fast protection and end-to-end control. The network will also incorporate Net Insight’s unique Time Transfer feature for GPS-free time synchronization as well as end-to-end performance monitoring enabling Teracom to verify quality of service to end users without adding costly external equipment.
“We have chosen Net Insight since their Nimbra solution is the most efficient for transport of media services, multiservice capabilities and for their strong customer references,” says Peo Gaasvik, CTO at Teracom. "This is a strategic choice for Teracom and it will support our long term objective to grow our businesses in Sweden and abroad.
“We won this agreement in fierce competition thanks to our well proven Nimbra platform which offers efficient transport of IP/Ethernet traffic,” says Fredrik Trägårdh, CEO of Net Insight. "This very prestigious IP/Ethernet distribution project proves that Net Insight is well positioned for future DVB-T2 networks and other media-rich IP video distribution networks.”
