Dermott and Trevor team up to host new Sunday Footy Wrap

Football favourites Dermott Brereton and Trevor Marmalade will this Sunday join comedian Lawrence Mooney and AFL commentator Michael Christian to launch Sunday Footy Wrap – a new-look footy program to be screened live online on BigPond, Telstra Next G™ mobile phones and on Telstra’s IPTV service BigPond TV when it launches later this year.

The one hour program will go live each Sunday throughout the AFL season at 7.30pm (AEST) on BigPond’s dedicated AFL channel and feature the latest AFL news, video highlights, surprises, and fallout from every round and cross live to any late finishing action around Australia. Sunday Footy Wrap will also encourage viewers to have their say on all footy matters via Twitter, email, social networking sites and online talkback.

Dermott Brereton said he was looking forward to being a part of the new show which will be produced for Telstra by Abundant Media and McGuire Media.

“Rather than wait until later in the week, Sunday Footy Wrap will be the first footy show on television to wrap up the weekend’s highlights,” Dermott said. “An essential part of the program will be viewer participation through social media services like Twitter and if we think their opinion counts, we’ll have them on the show in the following weeks to talk more,” he said.

Trevor Marmalade said he was delighted to be back talking footy and excited by the prospect of being on a range of devices including the web, IPTV and even the mobile phone.

“A privileged few are able to make the jump from the small screen to the big screen. I have leapt from the small screen to the really small screen,” Trevor said.

Director of Telstra Media Chris Taylor said the combination of sports presenters and comedians would ensure Sunday Footy Wrap delivers a mix of entertainment and information with comedy sketches, fan vox pops and viewer-driven online talkback.

“Thousands of Telstra customers have an insatiable appetite for AFL content and have made it one of the hottest items on BigPond so we look forward to bringing them some great new content.”

“And with Telstra set to launch BigPond TV through IP televisions and the new T-Box during the 2010 footy season Sunday Footy Wrap will soon be available in the living rooms of the fans as well as through the mobiles, the web and Telstra’s new T-Hub.”

“Developing local content and supporting Australian production is an increasingly important part of Telstra’s content plans, especially as we roll out IPTV,” Chris said. “The Sunday Footy Wrap will be a terrific addition to our slate of live sports production.”

Telstra already provides a range of AFL content through BigPond Sports Weekend, a live sports program that brings sports news and results from around the globe, plus interviews and opinion from a host of Australia’s brightest sporting personalities.

Sunday Footy Wrap is free and unmetered for BigPond customers watching online. Telstra Next G™ customers can watch Sunday Footy Wrap on their mobiles as part of the $5.95 per month AFL action pack. Catch the action from 7.30pm this Sunday by visiting www.afl.com.au or through BigPond at www.bigpond.com.au and compatible Telstra Next G™ mobile devices.
