MocoSpace’s Mobile Social Graph Report: 30% of Feature Phone Users Looking to Upgrade to Smartphones; Prefer iPhone 2:1 vs. Android

Boston, MA – April 29, 2010 – MocoSpace, the largest mobile social network in the U.S., is releasing its first Mobile Social Graph, a new quarterly report highlighting how consumer behaviors are shifting from the web to the mobile phone. The report highlights data on how user habits differ on various device types, including PCs, traditional feature phones, and Android and iPhones.

With over 11 million members, MocoSpace is the 4th largest mobile web site in the U.S. according to recent research firm Ground Truth. It has become the site of choice for a young, multicultural generation increasingly using their mobile phones to meet people, stay connected, and have fun through activities including chat, IM, blogging, sharing photos, posting videos, listening to music and playing games.

Key findings of the MocoSpace Mobile Social Graph:

• Android phone traffic increased 39.9% in Q1
• 30% of traditional feature phone users plan to purchase a smartphone in 2010
• iPhone is 2 times more attractive than Android for potential smartphone buyers
• Traditional feature phone usage decreased by 22%
• iPhone/Android sessions are 27.8% longer than feature phone sessions
• Mobile users log-in almost twice as often as PC users
• iPhone/Android users are 72% more likely to buy virtual currency than feature phone users

“Our Mobile Social Graph report demonstrates the rise of Android and iPhone as central social-networking devices,” says Justin Siegel, MocoSpace CEO. “Our data confirms that smartphones encourage longer sessions and also increased purchasing of virtual currency.”
