New Alcatel 1540 Litespan integrating IP native ISAM technology

Paris, March 24, 2006 - Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today announced that at the end of 2005, it had cumulatively delivered more than 20 million multiservice access lines to the ETSI market supported by the Alcatel 1540 Litespan Multiservice Access Gateway. Over one million of these were DSL lines. In 2005 alone, Alcatel shipped four million multiservice access lines.

“The global MSAP/DLC market experienced strong growth during 2005, as global service providers leveraged the broadband capabilities of platforms such as the Alcatel 1540 Litespan to offer DSL services, while demand for POTS remained robust in emerging markets,” according to Teresa Mastrangelo, principal analyst with the Windsor Oaks Group. “In 2005, Alcatel continued to retain its number one position in this market.”

Alcatel also announced that the success of the 1540 Litespan will be further fueled by integration of the technology of Alcatel’s market leading ISAM (Intelligent Services Access Manager) product family into the 1540 Litespan. Purposely built with flexibility, Alcatel’s ISAM family is a native IP, non-blocking solution and the market’s first true 100% triple play broadband access platform. With integration of the ISAM technology, service providers utilizing the 1540 Litespan will now be able to offer their customers user-centric triple play services including full video and broadcast TV.

Dirk Van den Berghen, President of Alcatel’s access network activities commented: “Service providers in markets where traditional voice services are still experiencing growth are looking for access platforms that enable them to continue to deliver quality voice services while at the same time, cost-effectively provide Internet access and video services. Integration of the ISAM technology into the Alcatel 1540 Litespan provides customers with a transition path to offer triple play services and to new revenue streams.”

Deployed by more than 60 service providers in 39 countries including North-West Telecom and Sakhatelecom in Russia, Serbia Telecom, Slovak Telecom, RomTelecom in Romania, GPTC in Lybia, PTK in Kosovo, the Alcatel 1540 Litespan is ideally suited to service providers in emerging markets looking to grow or replace legacy voice lines and offer full triple play broadband services to their customers.
