Arkema doubles the production capacity of the Shanghai Hydrogen Peroxide plant

3/23/2006, Arkema, the third largest Hydrogen Peroxide producer, announces the expansion to almost 80,000 metric tons per year of the production capacity at the Wujing plant (Shanghai).
“This investment represents another step forward in China for Arkema, and will allow to meet the growing demand from its customers in Asia”, explains Marie-Pierre Chevallier, Group President of Arkema’s Hydrogen Peroxide Business Unit.
“Our presence in China, through a joint venture with Shanghai Coking created in 2000, Arkema Shanghai Hydrogen Peroxide (ASHP) held 66.6% by Arkema and 33.3% by Shanghai Coking, celebrating its 10th Anniversary in 2006, will be consolidated by this strategic expansion. This project targets market segments which owe their strong development to China’s growing demand for industrial and consumer goods. This investment will also allow us to offer our customers in China our entire product range, including our specialty grades.”
With its recognized expertise and extensive range of services, Arkema, the sole western producer of hydrogen peroxide in China, is an essential partner to its local customers in the paper and pulp bleaching, chemical synthesis, detergent, food processing, and electronics markets.
Following the announcement, in July 2005, of the expansion of its North American production capacity (+20,000 metric tons/year), the doubling of the Shanghai plant in China will increase Arkema’s overall production capacity to 385,000 metric tons/year by early 2008.

Beside Shanghai, Arkema operates four hydrogen peroxide production facilities around the world, two in North America (Becancour - Canada, and Memphis - Tennesse, US), and two in Europe (Jarrie - France and Leuna - Germany).
Hydrogen peroxide is used for its oxidizing properties in a large number of applications, including paper, pulp and textile bleaching, detergents, gas and effluent treatment, and is a key contributor in many other sectors (electronics, food processing, pharmaceuticals, etc.).
A global chemical player, Arkema consists of 3 coherent and balanced business segments: Vinyl Products, Industrial Chemicals, and Performance Products. Present in over 40 countries with 18,600 employees*, Arkema achieves sales of 5.2 billion euros*. With its 6 research centers in France, the United States and Japan, and internationally recognized brands, Arkema holds leadership positions in its principal markets.
