TestAmerica Capital Investment Tied to New Jersey Regulations and Customer Demand

Over a quarter million dollars in instrument technology upgrades highlight the first quarter for the TestAmerica facility in Edison, New Jersey. Significant investments in new analytical equipment address increased testing demand, changing regulatory climate and accelerated turnaround time needs of TestAmerica clients.

Instrument additions at the Edison laboratory include:
• Inductively Coupled Plasma/Mass Spectrometer (ICP/MS) with a state-of-the art auto-sampler, increasing test capacity, providing for instrument redundancy and accelerated turnaround for metals analyses per EPA methods 200.8 and 6020.
• Ion Chromatograph (IC) specifically to support Method 7199 for Hexavalent Chromium driven by remediation at former New Jersey Chromium Ore Processing sites.
• Two sample fractionators, critical components for ensuring data consistency and reproducibility in performing the upcoming New Jersey Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbon (EPH) method that will be required on May 10, 2010.
• A Thermo Scientific ESI SC4 FAST auto-sampler that greatly reduces analytical run times for ICP metals analysis.

Lab Director, Ann Gladwell commented on the investment saying, “It’s all about the client’s experience. The Edison laboratory processes in excess of 300,000 samples annually and volume is on the rise. Our clients need data of exacting quality and they need it quickly. Even in difficult economic times, leading companies make investments that positively impact the client experience. TestAmerica has always set the standard in this regard.”

The Edison laboratory plans to host a “Meet the Expert” luncheon for their clients in late spring, combined with a laboratory open house where investments in facilities, capital and infrastructure will be on display.
