Webster Bank Relies on Novell to Securely Expand Its Business
With security, identity and resource management solutions from Novell, Webster Bank is well positioned for future growth
SALT LAKE CITY (BrainShare® 2006)—21 Mar 2006—Novell today announced that Webster Bank, N.A., a subsidiary of Webster Financial Corporation (NYSE: WBS) the largest independent bank headquartered in New England with more than $17.8 billion in assets, selected Novell® SecureLogin and Novell ZENworks® to streamline user access and automate desktop management. Fast growing and having recently expanded from Connecticut into Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New York, the bank needed to integrate multiple IT environments, simplify user access, create consistency across an expanding enterprise, and ensure regulatory compliance. Working with Novell, Webster Bank increased security, built a foundation for rapid growth, and saved significant time and money after reducing the number of passwords by 75 percent and desktop administration time by 40 percent.
“We did our due diligence and after looking at alternatives knew that Novell SecureLogin was the best solution for us,” said John Jahne, vice president of Network Services at Webster Bank. “We brought in a SecureLogin expert and in just 30 minutes he resolved our top five identity management issues.”
Integrating SecureLogin with Novell eDirectoryTM and Microsoft* Active Directory*, Webster Bank provides its 3,300 users with single sign-on access to nearly 25 core applications. The IT staff can now quickly integrate new applications following an acquisition, giving all users access to the right information. Streamlined password management helps Webster Bank enforce tighter security policies, including frequent password changes. With a self-service option, users can reset their own passwords rather than waiting for help desk support.
“For a company of our size, we also had to automate desktop management – there was no way we could survive without it,” Jahne said. “We looked at other desktop management products, but ZENworks came out on top. We constantly have new applications and ZENworks makes it easy for us to deploy them in days, rather than weeks or months.”
Webster Bank selected Novell ZENworks to automate desktop management and upgrade all its desktops to Microsoft Windows* XP. From a central location, the IT staff can distribute applications and updates throughout its enterprise and remotely manage workstations.
Susan Heystee, president of Novell Americas, said, “Combining security, identity and resource management solutions can provide powerful tools for streamlining business processes and delivering bottom-line savings. Even more important, technology can become a powerful platform to extend an organization’s reach and expand its business. Webster Bank wisely made security and identity the foundation to support its rapid growth.”
