Center in Daegu City to be dedicated to develop world-class PLM solutions for shipbuilding industry

SEOUL, KOREA, - Dassault Systèmes (DS) (Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), a world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, today announced the signing of an agreement with Daegu Metropolitan City and Daegu Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority (DGFEZ) for the establishment and operation of a new R&D center in Daegu City, Korea. Dedicated to developing and supporting 3D PLM solutions for the shipbuilding industry, the R&D center will open this April.

Opening the R&D Center is a strong move by Dassault Systèmes to get closer to its customers in the Shipbuilding Industry in Korea and in the Asia-Pacific region. Located in the International Cultural District of Daegu Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone, the center will initially accommodate a highly skilled team of R&D engineers and industry specialists to develop and support innovative and collaborative PLM solutions for shipbuilding. Drawing on its widespread resources and technology, Dassault Systèmes intends to partner with world leading shipbuilders in the region to develop the PLM solutions they need, resulting in wider discipline coverage and a new level of ease of use. In addition, the PLM solutions will help companies improve their quality of understanding and communication among all parties involved as they collaborate through 3D Lifelike experience.

Dassault Systèmes’ R&D center in Daegu will also focus on developing local talents and expertise in research, deployment of PLM solutions and their associated best practices for the shipbuilding industry. As such, DS will explore the possibility of cooperating with research centers and universities in the region.

“Working in a close contact with industry leaders to build our PLM solutions is a must for Dassault Systemes. Our customers and their input are truly one of the key strengths of Dassault Systèmes Research & Development,” said Philippe Laufer, Vice President, Research & Development, Dassault Systèmes.

Through its partnership with Dassault Systèmes, Daegu Metropolitan City is expected to further invigorate the regional economy, increasing employment and enhancing its position as an international city. The city will have better exposure to major international companies and more clout in attracting domestic IT solution companies. And, in line with Daegu’s objectives, the use of PLM will help more companies realize Green IT.

“The R&D center illustrates Dassault Systèmes’ strong commitment to the Korean market. Through this center in Daegu, we will be able to accelerate the development of world-class PLM solutions for the shipbuilding industry by using our cutting-edge 3D and PLM technology,” said YoungBin Cho, Managing Director of Dassault Systèmes Korea.

“We are delighted that Dassault Systèmes, a globally recognized company, has chosen Daegu as its partner. Our goal is to build Daegu as one of the nation’s R&D hub where companies can receive outstanding resources and opportunities. On the other hand, by leveraging Dassault Systèmes’ reputation and network, we are aiming to encourage many of its 115,000 customers around the world to set up R&D centers in the city,” said BumIl Kim, Mayor of Daegu Metropolitan City.

“The establishment of Dassault Systèmes in Daegu is the result of the efforts of DGFEZ and the Ministry of Knowledge Economy to grow the city by attracting international companies to set up R&D centers. The efforts meet the goal of Daegu Metropolitan City, which aims to develop a knowledge-based free economic zone. We will continue to partner with more reputable companies such as Dassault Systèmes to eventually become a global knowledge hub,” said InCheol Park, Head of DGFEZ.
