ETI Begins 2005 Geometric Tolerancing Public Workshop Series

ETI is presenting a series of training events around the country in 2005. The hands-on workshops are open to the public and feature courses on geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) fundamentals, tolerance stacks, and solid model tolerancing. All of the courses were developed by GD&T expert, Alex Krulikowski, and they approach the subjects from a design perspective.

The public workshop series begins in Westland, Michigan, with a 3-day GD&T fundamentals course in late January. In March, workshops will be presented in Michigan; Houston, Texas; and Los Angeles, California. More workshops will be held throughout the year in Chicago, San Francisco, and Florham Park, New Jersey.

“ETI developed the public workshop series to allow better access to GD&T training,” said Alex Krulikowski, president of ETI. “The correct application of GD&T is the core to good design, and can help save organizations thousands of dollars. By offering these workshops around the country, we are making them available to individuals and companies that need GD&T training, but have little access to it.”

The GD&T Fundamentals Workshops are based on the ASME Y14.5M-1994 Standard and are offered in two formats. The two-day course is a complete course in the fundamentals that teaches the terms, rules, symbols and concepts of GD&T. The one-day overview is an accelerated course designed for managers, supervisors, and others who don’t use GD&T, but who need to understand the basic concepts of geometric tolerancing. It’s also perfect as a refresher course. The Tolerance Stacks Workshop is a three-day advanced course that teaches how to calculate tolerance stacks, a crucial skill that solves problems in the design stage instead of the production stage.

Exclusively from ETI, the Solid Model Tolerancing Workshop is a one-day course that explains the fundamental definitions, concepts, and methods of the new ASME Y14.41-2003 Standard. As Chairman of the Y14.41 Committee on Solid Model Tolerancing, Krulikowski understands the benefits of a math-based product development process, and his course provides a guide for CAD software developers working on improved modeling and annotation practices for the engineering community.
