Australian company signs $US3 million deal with BT

BT, one of the world’s leading providers of communications solutions and services, today announced it has signed a $US3 million deal with Cochlear Limited, a world leader in advanced hearing loss solutions, to deliver network services that will consolidate suppliers, reduce costs, increase speed to market and support its growing global business.

Under the contract, BT will consolidate Cochlear’s network providers and supply it with a managed application service to improve the performance of its network and prioritise core business applications.

Prior to the deal, Cochlear had multiple network providers, which created a complex network structure and required higher running costs. To improve its time to market, Cochlear needed to prioritise and optimise the performance of the core business applications in its network.

“BT has demonstrated in the past that it understands Cochlear’s business and the fast-paced environment it operates in. When Cochlear began looking at how IT could be its differentiator in the competitive biotechnology industry, BT was a natural fit,” said Craig Davies, Manager, Global Communications, Security and Projects at Cochlear.

Davies continued, “BT was able to provide a cost-effective solution supporting Cochlear’s need to bring products to market more quickly. As a trusted advisor for a number of years, BT allows Cochlear to focus on its core business rather than the technology behind it.”

BT will give Cochlear the ability to identify and prioritise critical business applications while optimising its network infrastructure. This faster and more cost efficient network will allow Cochlear to accelerate the delivery of products to its local and global markets.

“The global network is managed from Cochlear’s Australian headquarters by a local BT team. By leveraging BT‘s global network capabilities, Cochlear will benefit from an infrastructure that will help it transition to its next stage of growth,” said Kevin Taylor, Managing Director, BT Asia Pacific.

The BT solution will involve migrating all of Cochlear’s business applications to the BT network, and working with Cochlear to prioritise and optimise these according to Cochlear’s core needs.
