Dow Corning brings Fascinating SiliconeTM to life for students in India

Dow Corning, a global silicone leader, today organized a Science Day at their manufacturing plant in Pune (India) for the students of a school in the neighboring village of Dhoksanghvi - bringing several interesting experiments to the students and engaging them to learn how silicones help improve our lives and the world we share. In total, about 40 students of Abbasaheb Pachange School in Dhoksanghvi village participated in the event and explored the fascinating world of silicones.

With the company completing a decade of collaboration with the Indian customers and serving the local community, we want to build even stronger ties with the communities around us, based on mutual understanding and involvement.”said Jean-Paul Mollie, Dow Corning’s region president for India, South Asia, Middle East and Africa. “Our aim is to showcase the power of silicone chemistry and stimulate scientific curiosity - hence this innovative idea of conducting Science Days to encourage hands-on science education activities.”

The half day long program included experiments like antifoams for coating and mould-making, in addition to various article displays. In the “Antifoam for Coating,” students added one drop of antifoam into a bottle full of foam and found that the foam disappears immediately. These experiments showed students not only the unique properties of silicone and silicon-based technology, but also their ability to help society balance the need for innovation and growth with the need to protect human health.
