San Francisco & San Jose, Calif. - Sub par sound on mobile games is like muzak in a nightclub. It’s just not the same. To produce appealing sounds for mobile users, developers need to know the latest and greatest technology and standards. Chris Dunn and Haruko Kurata from Moderati, a mobile entertainment company, will co-lead a session on the merits of mobile audio technology, entitled “Mobile DLS: Creating Customized Game Sounds with Downloadable Sound Technology.”

Next generation mobile audio technology, including Mobile DLS (downloadable sound) and Mobile XMF (eXtensible music format), is becoming increasingly popular because it’s compact and reusable, as well as customizable for every game developer’s needs. During this session, developers and sound designers will gain clear insight into the new technology, which will enable them to produce new sounds for new games.

The session will be held during the Game Developers Conference (GDC) Mobile, which precedes the annual GDC, at the San Jose Convention Center on March 21 from 5:00-5:45 pm.

As the director of production for Moderati, Dunn manages all audio and visual content composition, optimization, and distribution. The company develops and distributes ringtones, wallpapers and other mobile content for more than 14 U.S. carriers, and is the creator of the popular Modtones brand.

Kurata is production manager for Moderati’s Embedded Technologies division, which services licensees of the Faith Group’s mobile sound solutions. Moderati is owned by Faith, Inc. of Japan.

GDC Mobile, is a two-day conference (March 20 &21) devoted to providing mobile game developers with the latest information and leading developments from mobile network operators, MVNOs, advanced technology providers and major console game publishers. The annual GDC is a global forum for professionals, artists, and technical programmers involved in the development of interactive games to exchange ideas and shape the future of the $11 billion video game industry.
