New collaboration applications services provide innovative solutions with a rapid return on investment

FALLS CHURCH, Va. and BASKING RIDGE, N.J. - CSC (NYSE: CSC) and Avaya, a global leader in business communications applications, systems and services, today announced an agreement to expand CSC’s Unified Communications portfolio with new Communications Enabled Applications (CEA) and Services based on the Avaya Agile Communication Environment™ (ACE).

CSC’s Unified Communications and Collaboration services now feature a suite of both ready-to-use communications-enabled applications and customizable application integration solutions. The CEA offerings make it easy for organizations to take their existing business processes, streamline operations, bridge them with communications functions and start realizing payback on their investment in months, rather than years.

Avaya ACE is the newest addition to CSC’s Unified Communications portfolio. ACE is an open software platform for building communications enabled applications in a rich multi-vendor environment using Web Services and standards-based Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) interfaces. The CEA offering is a managed service that uses Avaya’s technology as a key component of the solution. CEA provides an open, application delivery environment that seamlessly integrates disparate platforms, making it easier to bring together users and groups, applications and business processes.

CSC’s CEA offer is a fully integrated and comprehensive solution targeted at Fortune 1000 companies and comprised of four key services:

* Business consulting
* Design and implementation
* Application development, customization, integration and support
* Managed services

As examples: Workflow management and supply chain applications can be communications enabled to drive down process latency. Automating and enhancing communications abilities with customer relationship management applications can also make customer contact faster and more enjoyable. Hot Desking can be further deployed across multi-vendor environments to lower real estate and facilities costs by as much as 23 percent and reduce long-distance mobile phone costs by more than 10 percent.

“Avaya’s technology was critical in helping us create a solution for complex, multi-vendor environments that need to enable collaboration between geographically diverse mobile workers, executives, customers and suppliers,” said Jason Cory, CSC vice president & global portfolio executive.

“CSC is deeply integrated into many of its customers’ organizations, running entire IT departments and handling systems integration,” said George Paolini, vice president, Market Development, Applications and Platforms, Avaya. “The company understands a customer’s unique environment and how to get the most value out of the infrastructure platforms and processes. CSC’s expertise combined with Avaya’s enterprise communications technology makes a truly compelling solution.”

“In the emerging world of communications-enabled applications, systems integrators like CSC become increasingly important as a source of not just technology integration, but also the business consulting required to identify and quantify the opportunities that exist within a company,” said Sheila McGee-Smith, president and principal analyst, McGee-Smith Analytics. “CSC’s incorporation of Avaya ACE into their CEA practice will greatly simplify both the business case and the technical aspects of CEA client engagements.”
