New Offer Gives Service Providers a Powerful Carrier-Hosted Solution to Help Increase Revenue Potential with SMBs and Large Enterprise Branch Offices

TORONTO - Strengthening its efforts to help service providers increase revenue potential and subscriber growth by simplifying the delivery of advanced IP services, Nortel* [OTC: NRTLQ] Carrier VoIP and Application Solutions (CVAS) has added Edgewater Networks, Inc., a leading provider of Network Services Gateways, to Nortel CVAS’ industry-leading business and voice multimedia solution. The combined offer gives service providers a complete, pre-tested end-to-end hosted VoIP solution that they can provide to small and medium businesses (SMBs) as well as large enterprise branch office locations.

“Service providers can leverage the solution to tap into the growing market opportunity of carrier-hosted IP communications, which is expected to reach $8.4 billion worldwide by 2013,” said Diane Myers, Directing Analyst, Infonetics Research. “Carrier-hosted IP is especially attractive for Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs) and remote offices because businesses gain the productivity benefits of advanced IP services without the cost of acquiring, deploying and maintaining premises-based equipment.”

“Nortel CVAS continues to secure leading-edge solutions that enable service providers to grow their business by delivering carrier-hosted IP services to enterprise subscribers,” said Samih Elhage, president, CVAS, Nortel. “We also understand that in order for service providers to attract new SMB and enterprise subscribers, they need reliable, integrated and competitive solutions that not only provide advanced communication capabilities but also help meet the enterprises and SMBs cost requirements investment to a minimum.”

Edgewater’s EdgeMarc Network Services Gateways and EdgeView VoIP Support System will be added to Nortel’s Hosted IP Communications for large enterprise solution to provide on-site control and management of traffic and IP calls. The combined solution will allow SMBs and large enterprise remote offices to benefit from advanced IP communications without bearing the burden of purchasing, installing and managing additional CPE infrastructure. It also gives enterprises business continuity and survivability by providing internal calling and a backup call path to the public network in the event that the IP connection is lost.

“Edgewater Networks is focused on creating powerful solutions that help take the cost and complexity out of on-site routing, control and management of traffic and IP calls,” said David G Norman, Chief Executive Officer, Edgewater Networks. “Our networking solution gives service providers extensive management and monitoring at the edge of the network, delivering higher reliability. This results in fewer faults, efficient troubleshooting and upgrades, and fewer service calls.”

Nortel’s Hosted IP Communications for Large Enterprise solution equips service providers to deliver carrier-hosted unified business communication and collaboration services for enterprise users, including e-mail, instant messaging, VoIP, click-to-call, video conferencing and other multimedia services. This enables service providers to derive greater value from their existing network investments and resources.

Edgewater’s EdgeMarc Network Services Gateways and EdgeView VoIP Support system deliver advanced IP Routing, Survivability, SIP call processing capabilities and visibility into the performance of VoIP services to service providers. The network solution also provides call admission control (CAC), QoS for converged voice and data networks and supports legacy devices like analog phones or fax machines. The solutions also support local calling and a back-up network link for recovery from network failures or IP cable cuts.

Nortel CVAS will be at the GSMA Mobile World Congress tradeshow in Barcelona, Spain (February 15-18) in Hall 4, Level 5, Executive Suite 4.5HS04 to discuss the latest success, trends and solutions behind Nortel’s carrier VoIP leadership.
