* experience the most hospitalizations as well as emergency room, out-patient and doctor office visits,

* are the least prepared and most vulnerable to the pain, stress and unpredictability of medical events,

* are defenseless to the harmful effects of these early experiences that can last a lifetime

Significant research efforts have improved the outcome for premature infants in the NICU and countless studies have been undertaken that address the needs of 6 to 18 years olds. However children birth to five, the highest consumers of pediatric health care, have been neglected! This first-ever conference will begin to change that reality.
