Physician Leadership Council to set high standards for IMI hospitalists

ST. LOUIS (Jan. 21, 2010) – The Physician Leadership Council of Inpatient Management, Inc. (IMI) is preparing for 2010 by implementing best practice initiatives and promoting leadership as a key to success corporate-wide. The Council sets practice guidelines, advances clinical excellence initiatives and develops plans to improve practice methods across all IMI hospital programs. The Council’s next meeting will be held Jan. 25. They meet formally four times per year to review programs and plan for future operations.

In keeping with the Council’s focus on providing physician leadership at the client level in the area of quality, three hospitalists employed by IMI were recently selected as recipients of various awards from their designated hospitals and communities. Eric Basmaji, M.D., Caitlin Foxley, M.D. and Loren Chassels, M.D. each received awards for their dedication to quality healthcare and service.

“We are always thrilled to hear about our physicians’ accomplishments and strengths,” said Kirk Mathews, CEO and Co-Founder of IMI. “We always want to stay informed and ahead of practice trends, facilitating dynamic conversation among our hospitalist leaders and our clients. Dr.’s Basmaji, Foxley and Chassels are all valued members of the IMI team and I congratulate them on their hard work and dedication to providing quality healthcare. We are proud to have these physicians as part of the IMI team as they prove to be strong leaders in their medical communities.”

Northern Michigan Regional Hospital selected Eric Basmaji, M.D. as the 2009 recipient of the hospital’s “My Kind of Doc” award. Hospital colleagues nominated Dr. Basmaji as the kind of physician they would like to work alongside or entrust with their family members’ medical care. He was commended for working well as part of a team, and being both compassionate and respectful. Basmaji received his medical degree from the American University of Caribbean in Plymouth, Montserrat, and completed his residency at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Mich.

“I am so honored,” said Dr. Basmaji. “My own kind of doc would be caring and compassionate and willing to put 100 percent effort into the case, and that’s what I strive to do. I find constant communication and family meetings very important to my job,” said Dr. Basmaji. “Staying in contact with the patient’s physician plays in as well. I am always ready to call my patient’s doctor and get additional information if it will help me improve their care.”

Caitlin Foxley, M.D. IMI medical director of the Nebraska Medical Center (NMC) in Omaha, Neb. was recently selected to serve on the Conference Committee for the Annual Midwestern Hospital Medicine Conference among academic hospital leaders from throughout the Midwest. The 6th Annual Midwestern Hospital Medicine Conference is held by the Feinberg School of Medicine, Division of Hospital Medicine, at Northwestern University and is scheduled for Oct. 7-9, 2010, in Chicago. Full conference information will be posted on a dedicated conference Web site.

The Highland News Leader and Widmer Floral Company and Greenhouse awarded Dr. Loren Chassels with the “Rose of the Week” award for his service to the community. Dr. Chassels is a hospitalist at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Ill. and received the award for providing free physical examinations to local Special Olympics athletes at Highland High School. His dedication to helping patients both inside and outside of the hospital is widely valued.
