Montreal finalist named Workopolis Ambassador

With a month to go until the 2010 Winter Games, one lucky Canadian is getting ready to pack her bags for the job of a lifetime in Vancouver – as Workopolis Ambassador, assisting with the hospitality program. Like many of the athletes competing in February, Chantal Beaudoin of Montreal overcame stiff competition to garner the most votes and claim the coveted title.

Since the search for the Workopolis Ambassador began three months ago, hundreds of applications from candidates across the country were narrowed down to ten, and from them three finalists from Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal were selected. The finalists called upon their networks to garner votes for their online video submissions. Over 73,000 votes were registered at www.ambassador.workopolis.com between December 1st and 15th, with Chantal’s winning video receiving more than 40,000 votes.

“Throughout the application and voting process, Chantal has proven that she can multi-task like a biathlete, take on new challenges with the fearlessness of a skeleton competitor, and excel under pressure like our country’s ice hockey team,” said Mario Bottone, VP of Marketing, Workopolis. “This is exactly what we were looking for of our Workopolis Ambassador and we are very pleased she will be joining us in Vancouver next month.”

Thirty-nine-year-old Chantal is trilingual, has extensive hospitality experience and proven creative talents which will be demonstrated in her ongoing behind-the-scenes commentary via a blog on www.ambassador.workopolis.com during the 2010 Winter Games. Following this experience, she will be returning to her concierge position at the Hilton Bonaventure in Montreal.

“I’m so honoured to have been chosen for such an amazing job opportunity by my fellow Canadians,” said Workopolis Ambassador, Chantal Beaudoin. “The experience will undoubtedly enhance my professional development in ways never previously imagined while also giving me the opportunity to see the world from my own backyard.”

Chantal’s excitement about finding out she was selected as Workopolis Ambassador was caught on video and can be viewed at www.ambassador.workopolis.com.

In addition to the exceptional work experience she will receive, Chantal will also earn a salary of $7,000 for the three-week job plus receive free accommodation, transportation and meals, as well as access to at least 18 sporting events and ceremonies and other Games related sites such as Canada Olympic House and Hockey House (valued at approx $15,000 CDN).

Each of the three finalists presented a unique take on how the position would change their lives, making it difficult for Canadians to choose just one person for the job. Chantal’s fellow competitors included:

* Eric Lutley from Vancouver, who has a passion for winter sports, is bilingual and equipped with years of hospitality experience as a hotel concierge.
* Kimberlee Regan from Toronto, who is an athlete who possesses a fierce sense of national pride and a passion for serving others.

“I would also like to congratulate our other finalists for taking the road less travelled and applying for this unique position,” said Bottone. “The race came right down to the wire and all three candidates definitely have what it takes to be a winner on the job.”
