Oslo, Ignis ASA, an international provider of optical components, today announced that they have been awarded a significant order from a major fiber optic transmission equipment manufacturer, for delivery of tunable laser chips over a period of 18 months. The order value is USD 5.5 million and delivery will start immediately.

This is the first larger order from the equipment manufacturer following the supply agreement signed fall 2009 for delivery of tunable laser chips over a period of 5 years. Being preferred supplier to this world-leading manufacturer is a great recognition of Ignis’ tunable laser technology and proves Ignis as a highly competitive provider of active optical components in the international telecom market.

- This is a major milestone for Ignis Syntune and strongly supports our strategy of adding the tunable laser chips to our existing component business. There are very few providers of this technology in the world and we know our world-class chips are among the best laser technologies available in the market. We are very excited about working together with this customer, and this is just the beginning of a long-term relationship, says Patrik Evaldsson, CEO at Ignis Syntune.

The fiber optical component manufacturer provides industry-leading active and passive optical products for enterprise networking and telecom, delivering to all major international telecom markets.

Optical components markets are expected to grow from $3.8 billion in 2008 to $11.3 billion by 2015. Ignis entered into the tunable laser product segment through the acquisition of Syntune AB spring 2009. Ignis strategy is to supply tunable laser chip to leading international subsystem manufacturers in the telecom business.
