High Grade Copy of the First Appearance of Spider-Man being Auctioned

WEBWIRE

As most comic book collectors know, the first appearance of Spider-Man took place on the pages of Amazing Fantasy #15 in August of 1962. Created by artist Steve Ditko and Marvel editor Stan Lee, it was the story of Peter Parker - a ordinary boy who suffered the angst of being a teenager - with a wrench in the form of a radioactive spider thrown into the mix. The same bite that gave young Mr. Parker amazing abilities also went on to give Spider-Man amazing popularity in the real world.

Spider-Man has since won the hearts of readers everywhere and he has become as well known as Superman, Batman and apple pie. As such, very early appearances of Spider-Man are highly desirable to collectors and it is not very often that a high grade, unrestored example comes up for auction as is the case being auctioned now. In fact, only a handful of copies are graded higher than this example - graded 7.5 (Very Fine -) with Off-White pages out of a nearly impossible 10 by professional graders at the Certified Guaranty Company.

If you are in the market for an item like this, be prepared to use a little “Spidey Sense” first. The bid at the time of this writing was $16,100 - but don’t think you are going to steal it at the last second for $16,101. The last time a 7.5 condition copy of this book sold at auction, it went for over $50,000! www.ivegotneatstuff.com
