Wetzlar – Bosch’s Thermotechnology division plans to acquire all the shares in Köhler & Ziegler Anlagetechnik GmbH, a German manufacturer of combined heat and power plants. Agreements to this effect were signed on December 18, 2009. The transaction is subject to anti-trust approval. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

Employing roughly 130 people in Lollar, Köhler & Ziegler generated sales revenues of some 17 million euros in 2008. The company is a technology leader in combined heat and power plants that generate between 20 kilowatts and 2 megawatts. These plants use combined heat and power to generate heat and electricity highly efficiently, achieving a gross efficiency of over 90 percent. They are mainly used to supply buildings with heat and power, to generate heat for industrial processes, as well as in district heating networks, and can also be operated with renewable energies such as biogas.

“The acquisition complements our activities in the promising co-generation segment and expands our portfolio of environmentally compatible technologies. Köhler & Ziegler is one of the pioneers in this technology. We will now jointly expand this business both geographically and technically,” says Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Sterlepper, member of the executive management of the Bosch Thermotechnology division. Köhler & Ziegler has supplied the Bosch Thermotechnology brand Buderus with small and medium-sized CHP plants since 2008. The acquisition will add larger plants as well as container construction, especially for biogas plants, to Bosch’s product range.

Bosch Thermotechnik GmbH forms the Thermotechnology division of the Bosch Group. Together with its subsidiaries, Bosch Thermotechnology is a leading European manufacturer of resource-efficient heating products and hot water solutions. In fiscal 2008, Bosch Thermotechnology employed some 13,000 people and generated sales of roughly 3 billion euros. The Bosch Group comprises Robert Bosch GmbH and its more than 300 subsidiaries and regional companies in over 60 countries. If its sales and service partners are included, then Bosch is represented in roughly 150 countries. This worldwide development, manufacturing, and sales network is the foundation for further growth.
