Statement From The Dow Chemical Company on the Upcoming United Nations Global Climate Negotiations in Copenhagen

Midland, Michigan - The Dow Chemical Company issued the following statement regarding the upcoming United Nations conference in Copenhagen:

The Dow Chemical Company applauds the decision of President Obama to attend the United Nations global climate negotiations next month in Copenhagen. Dow believes that U.S. leadership is essential to fostering a global solution to rising greenhouse gas emissions. Sound and predictable climate policy will not only protect our environment but will also unleash investment in new technologies that will create jobs and advance energy security and sustainability.

Dow also remains encouraged by efforts taken by the U.S. Congress, the Major Economies Forum, the G20 meetings and the various bilateral and multilateral discussions to address the interrelated challenges of energy and climate change. We also view the recent announcement from the Government of China regarding their intent to achieve carbon dioxide intensity reduction targets as a positive step.

Dow believes prompt action by all nations is necessary in order to develop a meaningful framework for a path forward.
