Slovenia’s cable operator Telemach selects Transmode for metro and backbone networks
Stockholm, Sweden - Transmode, a leading provider of optical networking solutions today announced that Telemach, the primary provider of cable TV, telephony and broadband internet services for Slovenia has upgraded parts of its national network with Transmode WDM equipment.
Telemach, which is owned by Mid Europa Partners group, an investment group operating in Central Europe, and previously part of the UPC group, focuses on providing advanced, high quality services that bring the digital world to the customers. Its extensive network, which reaches over 4,000km across the country, is based on a combination of optical and coaxial components.
Through constant investment in technology innovations, Telemach provides a high level of service to a wide range of Slovenian domestic users and businesses. These services include Cable TV (analog and digital), Internet Service, Telephony (SIP) and Multichannel Multipoint Distribution Services (MMDS – otherwise known as Wireless Cable) for one way TV distribution and for full triple play service).
Telemach is deploying Transmode’s TM-Series optical networking solution in its diverse network, which clearly demonstrates the versatility of the platform. The key new links that will be improved by the Transmode installation include routes into the capital from Novo mesto, Kočevje and Trbovlje, and between eastern cities Murska Sobota and Gornja Radgona.
For the Telemach installation, which has been deployed during 2009, Transmode has implemented 12 optical add-drop multiplexed (OADM) nodes, consisting of two TM-3000 and 10 TM-301 systems. Overall, the solution is based on single fibre CWDM and Gigabit Ethernet services are transported using 9x Gigabit Ethernet over 10G and 2x Gigabit Ethernet over 2.5G Muxponders. The network is designed to ensure delivery of multiple services to subscribers.
“Our principle requirements in developing this network were to ensure scalability and to have the ongoing flexibility that could meet increasing demands for bandwidth from all types of customers and services,” said Jože Mavec, Head of Internet & IT Department, Telemach. “The solution that Transmode has designed for us meets and exceeds our expectations and has done so at acceptable cost.”
Bjorn Andersson, VP Sales Transmode, added, “As we spend time with progressive customers like Telemach in Eastern Europe, we continue to demonstrate that Transmode’s TM-Series delivers a winning solution in terms of easily managed building blocks for multiple service types. The flexibility of Transmode’s systems enable customers to manage and configure networks that are tailored to their specific services and operational needs.”
