LA Testing and EMSL Analytical recommend radon testing to help prevent the world’s second leading cause of lung cancer.

Pasadena, CA

Only smoking causes more lung cancer deaths than radon according to industry and public health experts. To bring more awareness to this issue the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently joined the World Health Organization’s (WHO) first call to action to prevent radon caused cancers in homes across the globe.

The WHO released a guidance publication, “Handbook on Indoor Radon,” which represents a consensus of 30 countries on understanding and preventing radon risks. The publication is aimed at global public health professionals as well as the construction and building industries since they can incorporate foundation ventilation systems to help minimize radon dangers.

Natural radon levels across the United States and other countries can vary considerably. Long-term exposure to radon can cause cancer according to the EPA, WHO, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, American Lung Association and the National Academy of Sciences.

Radon is a radioactive gas that comes from the natural decay of uranium. It also happens to be a colorless, odorless and chemically inert gas that cannot be detected by human senses.

LA Testing, an affiliate of EMSL Analytical, along with EMSL are leading providers of radon testing laboratory services and products. Property owners in the United States can learn more and check the radon levels in their geographical area from EMSL and LA Testing’s dedicated radon website found at www.RadonTestingLab.com.

“This is a great time to have a property tested for radon levels,” reported Ben Sublasky, National Director of Client Services for LA Testing and EMSL Analytical. “The cool weather in most parts of the country means many properties are sealed up making the next several months perfect testing opportunities,” Sublasky continued.
