New Sybase iAnywhere Blue SDK 4.0 supports Bluetooth Core Specification v3.0 + High Speed, Empowering End Users with Faster, More Flexible Wireless Data, Audio, and Video Transfer

DUBLIN, CALIF. – Sybase iAnywhere, a subsidiary of Sybase, Inc. (NYSE:SY), an industry leader in delivering enterprise and mobile software, today announced a new version of its Sybase iAnywhere® Blue SDK (Software Developer Kit) with support for the Bluetooth® Core Specification version 3.0+ High Speed (HS), code named “Seattle,” that will enable developers to maximize Bluetooth performance on a wide array of mobile and embedded devices.

Sybase iAnywhere Blue SDK 4.0 enables dual mode Bluetooth and 802.11 wireless connectivity with dramatically faster and highly reliable data transfer for various applications, such as playing MP3 files, photo downloads, and streaming video transmissions. Sybase iAnywhere Blue SDK v4.0 uses existing Bluetooth technology to determine if a remote device supports an 802.11 AMP and then uses this higher speed connection to stream video or transfer large files efficiently. This combines proven Bluetooth discovery, security, and connectivity along with the speed of 802.11 -- all controllable through using the Sybase iAnywhere Bluetooth stack.

“Forthcoming smart phones, in-car telematics, and other wireless enabled devices stand to significantly benefit from the new Sybase iAnywhere Blue SDK 4.0,” said Michael Foley, Ph.D., executive director, Bluetooth SIG. “Sybase continues to advance Bluetooth usage with their product evolution, qualified through rigorous testing at Bluetooth SIG interoperability test events. The latest SDK release from Sybase enables users to take advantage of increased data speeds that are up to 20 times faster than conventional Bluetooth connections.”

“We are committed to supporting our broad customer base with the necessary tools to provide end users with an unparalleled wireless communication experience. Having recently announced Android support in the SDK portfolio, Sybase iAnywhere Blue SDK 4.0 brings even greater Bluetooth capabilities to our extensive and open device support strategy for Sybase’s customer and partner ecosystem,” said Brian Senese, senior technical product manager, Sybase iAnywhere. “As Bluetooth functionality continues to evolve, we are committed to providing our customers with proven solutions based upon the most recent specification releases that provide increased system performance resulting from a more efficient communications path.”

The latest version of Sybase’s commercial Bluetooth stack brings developers in the telematics, mobile device, and consumer electronics markets the following benefits:

* Designed for use with Bluetooth v3.0+HS compliant dual mode transceiver, offering both Bluetooth and any alternate MAC / PHY (AMP) connectivity
* Numerous Bluetooth profiles also available to speed up time to market and improve reliability of the Bluetooth offering
* Increased data rates of up to 20 times that of conventional Bluetooth protocols for fast file transfer of MP3 playlists plus audio and video streaming when using an 802.11 AMP
* Fast and easy porting to any real-time operating system
* Over ten years of experience working with wireless connectivity and synchronization protocols and hundreds of product design wins
* Qualified Bluetooth compliant v3.0 + HS stack with industry proven reliability
