Relocation of over 1,500 servers to improve reliability and reduce costs

Utrecht, Univé-VGZ-IZA-Trias, health insurance provider in the Netherlands, outsources its server management to Atos Origin. This significant contract includes the phased relocation of 1,500 Univé-VGZ-IZA-Trias servers to the Atos Origin data centre starting in October and expected to be completed by the end of 2010.

Univé-VGZ-IZA-Trias decided to outsource its servers to a third party as it moved offices in Zwolle and Nijmegen to its headoffice in Arnhem. As both locations were equipped with their own datacenter – an inheritance of the merger history – the insurer decided to seize the opportunity and review its complete server management. Univé-VGZ-IZA-Trias’s servers are currently operating from different locations and over the next few months, the servers will be integrated into a single, high-tech data center architecture with emergency fallback facilities. This will lead to improved reliability, greater flexibility, and cost savings in the longer term. As part of the agreement 12 employees have transferred from Univé-VGZ-IZA-Trias to Atos Origin.

Jo Knippenberg, IT director at Univé-VGZ-IZA-Trias: “It became clear pretty fast that we needed a completely new datacenter, also as we wanted to centralize our server management. We have reviewed all options of rebuilding and centralizing, but in these days it is merely impossible to update and maintain a fully equipped datacenter by ourselves. That is why we decided to engage with an innovative IT partner who knows and understands the intricacies of our business and Atos Origin best fitted the profile. We have been working together since 2003 to our complete satisfaction and the corporate cultures of Atos Origin and Univé-VGZ-IZA-Trias match very well. That was an important condition in facilitating this collaboration.”

The outsourcing agreement strengthens the position of Atos Origin in the health insurance market. Rob Pols, CEO of Atos Origin in the Netherlands, says: “This agreement underlines the faith Univé-VGZ-IZA-Trias has in our company and confirms our strong position in the health insurance sector. Our overall aim is to strengthen this position within the next few years. By using our green datacenters to manage Univé-VGZ-IZA-Trias’s servers we will not only be able to offer them greater flexibility and cost savings, but we will also provide sustainable services.”
