The UIEngine technology and tool suite from UIEvolution will extend the popular TWCi application to additional Java and Brew handsets

The Weather Channel Interactive (TWCi) today announced that it has partnered with UIEvolution (UIE) to extend existing mobile applications from The Weather Channel to even more Java and Brew devices, including Qualcomm’s new Brew Mobile Platform. Utilizing UIEvolution’s industry-leading UIEngine technology and tool suite, the popular weather application from TWCi will be able to reach the largest number of devices and carriers in North America as a downloadable, rich client application with weather maps, detailed conditions, forecasts and weather alerts.

“The Weather Channel takes pride in our product, our innovation and our consumer content,” said Cameron Clayton, vice president of mobile for TWCi. “UIEvolution leverages that history of cross-platform success and helps to bring timely information from The Weather Channel to even more mobile customers.”

The partnership will allow TWCi’s category-leading information to reach users on a variety of mobile handsets with a rich client application that takes advantages of key features such as GPS for interactive location-based services. While the iPhone and BlackBerry get most of the media attention, the largest percentage of mobile users still does not have these devices. Extending the weather application to include additional feature phones and smart phones allows TWCi to reach millions of additional consumers.

“Working with UIEvolution allows The Weather Channel to leverage what we do best, solve the technical challenge associated with reaching a variety of handsets, while maintaining a consistent brand experience for users,” said Chris Ruff, CEO of UIEvolution.
