2006 Series Largest Dev2Dev Event to Date; Seminar to Focus on Blending Commercial Software and Open Source Frameworks

SAN JOSE, Calif.—March 6, 2006 — BEA Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: BEAS), a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today announced the scheduled program lineup for the company’s fourth annual Dev2DevTM Days seminar series. This year’s global seminars are slated to focus on the blending of commercial software and open source frameworks. The program, which is scheduled to kick off on March 21 in Washington D.C. and to conclude in Mexico City on May 4, is designed to provide an ideal forum for developers and some of the industry’s best “liquid thinkers” to network and share the latest technology information and best practices to help them transform and optimize their business from the ground up.

Dev2Dev Days are one-day, developer-focused seminars that are designed to deliver expert knowledge and practical advice about the latest commercial and open source development technologies. Each event involves lectures and code demonstrations that explain how to blend the best open source application frameworks, development tools and deployment platforms with key commercial technologies from BEA.

“While the majority of enterprise Java solutions already use some sort of open source component, BEA is the one of the first enterprise infrastructure companies to recognize that it’s not a question of whether customers should deploy open source frameworks or commercial software, but a question of how to combine them,” said Franz Aman, Vice President of Audience Marketing for BEA Systems. “The reality is that customers will justifiably choose the best technology from either type of solution to solve their enterprise needs. We want this year’s Dev2Dev Days event to be a must for any developer wanting information on how to optimally leverage both open source and commercial technologies to help drive performance across the enterprise.”

Dev2Dev Days attendees can expect a detailed analysis of the traditional three-tier Web application with open source technologies incorporated in every layer while showcasing BEA’s new Eclipse-based development tools. A few of this year’s session topics include:

* BEA Workshop Studio Eclipse plug-ins that can ease development for JSP, Struts, JSF, Hibernate, Spring, Apache Beehive
* Utilizing the enterprise-grade features of BEA WebLogic Server® for Enterprise Java applications and services
* Best-of-breed Web application frameworks such as Apache Beehive, Struts and JSF
* Business objects models that use the inversion of control Spring container
* Object persistence models using various object relation mappings options such as EJB 3.0/BEA Kodo, JDO 2.0 and Hibernate
* Dynamic Web interaction using AJAX

In addition, developers attending Dev2Dev Days can learn how to use the following:

* BEA Workshop™ Studio, a fully Eclipse-based development environment designed to simplify enterprise application development and track application code dependencies with App X-ray
* Spring Beans for business logic, which can allow developers to build complex intelligent business objects using plain old Java objects that can utilize advanced integration with WebLogic Server
* Multiple persistence options like Enterprise Java Beans (EJB) 3.0, Open JPA, BEA Kodo or Hibernate, offering flexible data representation options without the complexity and overhead of traditional containers.

Unlike competitors that try to acquire an open source strategy, BEA understands open source, contributes to multiple open source communities and uses open source technologies in its products. BEA certifies and blends open source technologies deeply within their commercial software products, infusing them with new features and additional value for their customers.

Dev2Dev Days 2006 speakers are scheduled to include Adam Fitzgerald, Director for Developer Relations at BEA Systems, and Pieter Humphrey, Senior Product Marketing Manager at BEA Systems. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD™), Inc., a global provider of innovative microprocessor solutions for computing, communications and consumer electronics markets, is the Diamond Sponsor of this year’s event. Quest Software® and Acsera are Gold Sponsors; and other sponsors include Actuate™, ILOG™ and Business Objects™. Registration is free for BEA community members and $150 for nonmembers.
