Video-based training program and content search portal make distance learning fun for students, easier for teachers, cost-effective for school districts

New York, USA, Mar. 6, 2006 – TANDBERG (OSLO: TAA.OL), a global leader in visual communication, today introduces two new programs that harness the true potential of K-12 schools’ interactive distance learning investments and make it easier for educators to learn about, locate and implement the most compelling educational video content for their students.

The introduction of TANDBERG’s new education programs come at a time when more schools are seeking new and creative ways to capitalize on Internet access and technology investments to provide superior, cost effective learning experiences for their students. The TANDBERG programs provide a turnkey approach to training teachers and supplying exciting content for the classroom while maximizing budgets.

“The pressures on educators today are enormous,” says Lance Ford, technology coordinator for Howe Public Schools in rural LeFlore County, Oklahoma, “Optimizing video communication in the classroom has a positive impact on the overall learning environment and helps to alleviate these pressures, but first educators must meet the challenge of learning how to develop and present content over video.”

The TANDBERG Teachers Training Teachers Program, or T4, provides teachers with the skills necessary to effectively teach over video, empowering them to develop high impact distance learning programs and future classroom applications. T4:

• Goes beyond the traditional training model for videoconferencing by providing both initial and follow-up hands-on training with a “Train the Trainer” approach.

• Delivers 10 hours of training in four sessions, including one session where participants deliver a lesson of their choice over video.

• Provides a recording of the lesson using TANDBERG’s streaming video solution so trainers can see their performance for measurable improvement.

The Content Search Portal, developed jointly by TANDBERG and the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration (CILC), enables educators to search for content programs for any topic of study through a new online portal. If for example, when a science instructor wants to teach students about a specific mammal, he or she can simply type the word “whale” or “monkey” into the easy-to-use search portal to locate all relevant content programs available. With the Content Search Portal schools have access to thousands of interactive programs through partnerships with nearly 130 content providers, including museums, science centers and historic sites.

“The accessibility of content is a valuable resource for educators,” says Ruth E. Blankenbaker, executive director of the CILC. “TANDBERG’s commitment to building awareness and connecting educators with additional resources will help drive the growth and adoption of video communication in education.”

“TANDBERG is delivering the industry’s most comprehensive package of products, services and programs for educators,” said Jan Zanetis, TANDBERG market development manager for education. “In addition, TANDBERG will continue to work closely with educators as we develop new approaches for connecting teachers and students to their peers, content providers and experts across the globe. By listening to the needs of educators TANDBERG can help interactive distance learning programs meet their full potential.”

The T4 program and Content Search Portal are available in North America.
