New roofing and wall envelope approach gives customers easier access to energy efficient building solutions
Dow expands supply capability for new TIEMPO™ + 2000 wide-sheet TPO roofing membranes

Dow Building Solutions (DBS) is realigning its commercial market customer sales and technical support structure to better reflect how customers at different points in the supply chain access its broad portfolio of energy efficient roof, wall and foundation systems for commercial building applications. DBS also announced that it will expand supply capability for its Dow Roofing Systems new wide-sheet TIEMPO™+ 2000 TPO roofing membrane, which was introduced to the market earlier this year.

“Aligning our commercial sales and technical teams to reflect how our customers access our products and services is just good business sense,” said Dow Building Solutions North America general manager, Mike McGaugh. “Now, if an architect or building owner wants to increase energy efficiency or lower installation costs, they have a single Dow point of contact who can help them choose the right combination of solutions – whether it’s our THERMAX™ Wall System, our TIEMPO™+ 2000wide-sheet TPO membrane offering -- or any of the commercial envelope solutions in our portfolio. A roofing or wall contractor, on the other hand, gets the dedicated service and support they need to help grow their business and get their projects done on time and within budget.”

Commercial architects, specifiers, design builders, building owners and consultants now will be served by a DBS technical expert, who will collaborate with them on how to achieve maximum building performance. Roofing contractors and distributors will be served by DBS roofing channel managers, who will focus on demand creation, supply logistics, service and support. Similarly, distributors of commercial wall systems will be served by DBS wall channel managers

“Since we acquired Stevens Roofing a little over a year ago, our priority has been to leverage the technical know-how of both organizations and look for better ways to help customers solve their construction challenges,” said Victor Dean, general manager of Dow Roofing Systems. “Now we’re making it happen: we’re giving our customers easier access to our technical expertise and entire range of solutions – from a building’s roof all the way down to its foundation. And we’ve introduced TIEMPO™+ 2000, an exciting, high-performance roofing technology, in direct response to voiced customer needs for a monolithic, extruded wide-sheet product offering.”

Available in widths ranging from 8 to 10 feet to as narrow as 5 feet, TIEMPO™+ 2000 is a TPO membrane that offers best-in-class seam strength and ply adhesion for maximum performance in roofing systems engineered for demanding high wind zone applications.

According to Dean, market acceptance of the new product line has been strong, prompting demand for the 6-foot calendared offering made at its Westfield, North Carolina, facility to drop off significantly. As a result, Dow plans to exit from the 6-foot calendared TPO roof membrane offering, and will cease production at its Westfield facility by the end of November 2009.

Focused on the Future

Last year Dow announced that it had completed its acquisition of Stevens Roofing Systems and the formation of Dow Roofing Systems LLC - an investment specifically designed to grow Dow’s participation in the commercial roofing market, and also accelerate Dow’s ability to offer holistic solutions for total building performance. Since that time, the Company has taken a number of steps aligned to that strategic drive, including:

* Introduced TIEMPO™+ 2000 TPO roofing membrane: a monolithic, wide-sheet product line featuring industry-leading performance properties.
* Launched the THERMAX™ Wall System - the first total wall system in the industry.
* Strengthened its network of certified roofing installers for Dow Roofing Systems.
* Invested in research and development for superior new products from wall systems to advanced insulation and building integrated solar power generation.

“With today’s announcements we are now even better positioned to serve customers with a wide array of the best possible systems and solutions – both in terms of service and product portfolio options,” Dean added.
