Convergys Upgrades Intervoice Media Exchange for O2 to Support Apple iPhone’s Popular Visual Voicemail Service

WEBWIRE

(Cincinnati and London. - Convergys Corporation (NYSE: CVG), a global leader in relationship management, announced today that O2 UK, the leading communications company for consumers and businesses in the United Kingdom with 20.7 million mobile customers and 457,000 fixed broadband customers, has upgraded its award-winning Intervoice [R] Media Exchange solution to support the visual voicemail service used by its Apple iPhone subscribers. The multi-application capability of the Media Exchange solution allows O2 UK to offer both visual voicemail and traditional voicemail from the same, single platform, providing much reduced operational costs. The upgrade contract includes hardware, software, and professional services.

Enthusiastically embraced by subscribers, visual voicemail is the next improvement in voicemail. Through the user-friendly service, messages are available for immediate playback directly from the mobile device with no need to call a separate number to retrieve messages. O2’s Apple iPhone subscribers can listen to their messages and rewind, fast forward, and delete them with just the touch of a finger.

Media Exchange is the messenger working behind the scenes, using secure e-mail-like technology to transform voice-based messages to more cost-effective data packets on retrieval and then delivering those messages directly to the subscribers’ device.

“When Convergys acquired Intervoice and its portfolio of solutions, we knew that service providers worldwide, including O2 UK, regarded Media Exchange as a strategic differentiator in the provision of new services,” said Frank Sherlock, Senior Vice President and Managing Director International, Convergys Global Business Unit. “User-friendly visual voicemail, provided by O2 and powered by Media Exchange, is placing the latest technology right at subscribers’ fingertips.”

Part of Convergys’ portfolio of Relationship Management solutions, Media Exchange is an IP-based, multimodal, multi-media communications platform designed using open standards and incorporating industry-leading technology. Media Exchange enables operators to offer their subscribers high levels of personalization, voice-navigated messaging, video, web, and WAP access – all from a single subscriber mailbox. Subscribers have easy access to these services from landlines, mobile phones, or the web. These cutting-edge applications help operators attract new subscribers, increase usage by current subscribers, and increase customer satisfaction to generate higher average revenue per user (ARPU).
