Ubisense Partners With Black Hills Corp. to Unify Geospatial Information Systems

WEBWIRE

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo., September 15th, 2009 – Ubisense today announces its selection by Black Hills Corp. to consolidate and expand its geospatial information systems throughout multiple locations and platforms.

Ubisense was chosen primarily for its location technology leadership role in assisting blue-chip organizations around the world to implement and manage enterprise-wide projects. Black Hills Corp (BHC) owns and operates several electric and gas distribution entities, as well as non-regulated energy businesses. Many of these entities were acquired in recent years, leading to a need to consolidate technologies.

“Standardizing all business units onto one platform and database is a critical priority for Black Hills,” said Matt Seidl, Manager of GIS Support at Black Hills Corp. “The Ubisense team brought a tremendous amount of experience to the project, which has helped us make decisions quickly. We were impressed by Ubisense’ professionalism, organizational and management skills, and Smallworld programming experience.”

The rapid growth of the business left BHC with many overlapping information technology systems that required maintenance and support. As a result, BHC commissioned multiple projects to consolidate the various systems into a single corporate standard. The integration project was aimed at consolidating two of BHC’s geospatial information systems, both based on the GE Smallworld platform. Both systems were being maintained for use in mapping, design and asset management. After a thorough analysis project completed with Ubisense, BHC chose the GE Office Suites as the target consolidated solution.
