Embarcadero Change Manager Now Supports InterBase and Firebird
SAN FRANCISCO – Sept. 9, 2009 – Embarcadero, a leading provider of multi-platform database tools and developer software, is broadening the support of its Change Manager database change management tool by adding full support for InterBase® 2007 and 2009 and Firebird 1.5 and 2.0 database management systems (DBMSs). Through this broadened support, database administrators (DBAs) and developers can now effectively manage schema, data and configuration changes across even more popular database platforms.
Released today, Embarcadero® Change Manager™ 5.1.1 adds InterBase and Firebird to the extensive list of DBMSs that it currently supports from a single interface. These include IBM® DB2® for LUW, Microsoft® SQL Server, Oracle® and Sybase®.
For Cristian Speranta, principle of DBA Consulting, Embarcadero Change Manager has made the complex task of database application upgrades less challenging and saved his client a substantial amount of money.
“By combining Change Manager with my DBA expertise, I was able to upgrade a legacy database application from version 3 to version 6 without third-party vendor support,” said Speranta. “This saved my client hundreds of thousands of dollars they would have otherwise spent to upgrade their application. Without Change Manager’s schema comparison and DDL generation capabilities, they would have had to start from scratch and manually upgrade the database to the newest and latest version through a long, drawn-out and expensive upgrade process.”
For DBAs faced with the complicated task of managing changes among heterogeneous database management systems, Change Manager supports cross-platform data compare for all DBMS platforms, as well as schema compare and synchronization between Oracle and SQL Server and SQL Server and Sybase.
Change Manager 5.1.1 is now available worldwide. As with all Embarcadero products, Change Manager is also available as part of the Embarcadero® All-Access™ tool chest.

InterBase is a high-performance, compact, full-featured relational database management system developed and marketed by Embarcadero. InterBase is well-suited for small-to-medium (SME) applications and for ISVs, OEMs and VARs who require a small, relatable, embeddable database to power their packaged applications and devices. InterBase has been proven in thousands of business-critical server, desktop and embedded applications and is distinguished from other DBMSs by its small footprint, close to zero administration requirements, automatic crash recovery capabilities and strong data encryption and security features.
Firebird is one of the most popular open-source relational database management systems available today. Firebird was developed from the Interbase 6.0 Open Source project in 2000 and today supports many advanced DBMS features and runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Solaris platforms. Firebird is maintained and advanced by the Firebird Project and supported by the Firebird foundation. For more information on Firebird, visit the Firebird Web site.
